Newly hired benefits-eligible faculty, staff, and academic administrative professionals ("AAPs") must attend a Benefits Orientation session Beginning November 24, these sessions are held every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. in M-31 Darnall Hall in the HR/Benefits/Payroll Service Center. The Service Center is located next door to IDEAA and just above the Student Health Center on level 2 of Darnall (on the opposite end of the building from CAPS and student residence). Unfortunately, we are unable to accomodate late arrivals and suggest registering and planning to arrive around 8:45 a.m. to ensure a seat. Newly hired or newly eligible employees have 60 days to make their benefits elections in GMS. We strongly encourage you to attend orientation prior to submitting your benefits elections, once your information has been transmitted to the insurance providers, you cannot make changes until the next Open Enrollment season (with the exception of qualifying life events).
When Benefits Take Effect
Effective January 1, 2014, medical, dental, vision, flexible spending and supplemental life insurance benefits for those hired into a benefits-eligible position will take effect on the first of the month following - or coinciding with - date of hire or eligibility date. This applies to electable benefits only (the benefits you sign up for in GMS when you first become eligible or during open enrollment). Basic life insurance, basic AD&D, short term disability, long term disability, and retirement become effective on date of hire eligibility. Please note that all benefit premiums will be retroactive to the applicable effective date.
