Basic Life/
Basic AD&D
  • Georgetown University provides you with basic life insurance of $20,000 through MetLife.
  • Basic accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance of $20,000 is also provided.
  • You are automatically enrolled in these benefits.
Supplemental Life*
  • Choose from 1 to 8 times annual salary, up to $1,000,000.
Voluntary AD&D*
  • Employee-only and family coverage available. You may purchase coverage from $10,000 to $1 million (in increments of $10,000).
Dependent Life Insurance*

 

  • Spouse – You may choose from the following coverage options: $10,000, $30,000, $50,000, $100,000, $150,000, $200,000, $250,000
  • You must be enrolled in supplemental life to be eligible for spouse life coverage. Your spouse life election cannot exceed 50% of your supplemental life amount.
  • Children – $5,000 or $10,000.
Business Travel Accident (BTA)
  • The University provides business travel accident insurance at no cost to you. You are automatically enrolled in this benefit.
 Disability
  • Short Term Disability benefits replace 100% of your income in the event you become unable to work due to an injury, illness, or other medical scenario such as a scheduled surgery or birth of a child. 15-day benefit waiting period.
  • Long Term Disability benefits begin after you are unable to work, due to an illness or injury, for 90 calendar days and provides a benefit of 60% of base pay to a maximum paid benefit of $15,000 per month.
  • You are automatically enrolled in these benefits after exhausting the applicable waiting period (90 days for Short Term Disability, 180 days for Long Term Disability).
Retirement & Savings Benefits
TransElite Program
  • Optional. The TransElite Universal Life insurance program with Long Term Care benefits that recognizes consumers’ desire for flexible coverage and allows them to use their benefits when most needed. With one policy, you could protect against the two biggest risks that people face during their working years and at retirement: premature death and the need for long-term care services.
Tuition Assistance Program
(TAP)***
  • Georgetown University offers tuition benefits to employees and their children through the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). These benefits can be used for both studies at Georgetown University and other accredited higher educational institutions.
 Other Benefits
  • Paid Leave: 1199 SEIU members will find paid leave information in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Article XV, Vacation.
  • Holidays: Georgetown faculty and staff are provided with 17 paid holidays.
  • Child Care: Hoya Kids Learning Center, an on-site facility for children 18 months old to 5 years old, scholarships available to some income levels, there is a waiting list, separate facility and policy at  GU Law Center.
  • Faculty and Staff Assistance Program: FSAP assists faculty and staff and their families with professional and personal concerns, provided at no cost to employee, provides short term and crisis counseling, coordinates wellness programs, confidential.
  • Learning and Development: offers training opportunities, job aids, resources, and consultation to support employee development and continuous learning.
  • Parking/Transportation: administered by the Office of Transportation Management. Parking available on-campus and at satellite locations, paid for by pre-tax payroll deduction, price varies according to income level and site. Free shuttle service to Wisconsin Avenue, Dupont Circle, Arlington, and Law Center, free motorist assistance, pre-tax Metrocheck.
  • Employee discounts and voluntary benefits through GUAdvantage.

*Staff represented by 1199 SEIU working less than 30 , but at least 16, hours per week are only eligible for Basic Life.
