Staff/AAP Leave Benefits Updates Effective July 1, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

The university announced on April 27 that several significant updates to Staff/AAP leave benefits and policies have been approved, effective July 1, 2022

These updates are designed to offer better care and support for our community, while also building a more competitive benefits package for recruiting high-quality professionals. They also bring Staff and AAP benefits into alignment to better reflect our professional environment today.

Leave Benefits Updates

An overview of staff/AAP leave benefit updates can be found on the Benefits website, and in the table below.

Parental LeaveNo current university policy.8 weeks of paid parental leave, in addition to any maternity benefits an individual may receive under Short Term Disability. 

Paid Time Off (PTO)
AAPs and senior level employees: start at 21 days, accrue 1 additional day per year of service (up to 26 days per year).

Non-senior level employees: start at 16 days, accrue 1 additional day per year of service (up to 26 days per year).

The maximum accrual level for all employees is 36 days total.

All employees accrue 21 days during the first year of employment, and then receive one additional day for each year of service (up to 26 days per year). The maximum accrual level is 36 days total.
Sick LeaveNo sick leave for staff or AAPs hired after 1990.All employees receive 5 days of sick leave  upon hire, and then receive an additional 5 days on each anniversary of employment. The maximum accrual level is 30 day. This leave is in addition to PTO. Sick leave will not be paid out upon departure from the university.
Disability LeaveStaff are covered by Short Term Disability, which replaces 100% of salary for up to 7 weeks, after a 3-week unpaid waiting period. PTO can be used during the waiting period.Staff and AAPs are covered under the Short Term Disability plan, which replaces 100% of salary for up to 9 weeks, after a 1-week unpaid waiting period. PTO or sick leave can be used during the waiting period.
Salary ContinuanceAAPs are covered under Salary Continuance for illness and medical disability at 100% of salary for up to 10 weeks.
Salary Continuance for AAPs will sunset as of June 30, 2022. Current AAPs will receive a one-time 90-day bank of Salary Continuance leave to be used by June 30, 2027. As of July 1, 2022, AAPs will be covered under the university’s Short Term Disability plan.
PTO Use in Advance of AccrualNo use of PTO in advance for Staff.Staff and AAPs can take up to 5 days of annual PTO benefit before accrual.

Staff/AAP Community Forum (5/18)

The Staff/AAP Community Forum on Wednesday, May 18, from 10 – 11 a.m. (Zoom link), announced earlier today, will provide an overview of the leave benefits enhancements and allow for an opportunity to ask questions. Please RSVP and offer any questions in advance using this form.
