Benefits & status update messages to AAPs and Hiring Managers

June 14, 2022

Dear Academic and Administrative Professional Colleagues,

As previously announced (new window), the university will be updating and streamlining leave benefits for staff and Academic and Administrative Professionals (AAPs). We would like to provide some specific context for AAPs at this time.

Newly-Applicable Leave Plans and Policies
Effective July 1, 2022, benefits-eligible AAPs will be covered under the following leave plans and policies:Paid Time Off for Administrative Employees (HR Policy #602 (new window))Sick Leave (HR Policy #605 (new window))Short- and Long-Term Disability (HR Policy #604 (new window))Paid Parental Leave (HR Policy #614 (new window))Leave Policy Changes to Note
As of July 1, AAPs will no longer be covered under Salary Continuance, as it will be replaced with access to short- and long-term disability as described in HR policy #604 (new window) . In addition to the benefits provided in Policy #604, AAPs will gain access to a one-time 90-day Salary Continuance Leave Bank which can be used to cover absence for purposes of illness and injury, including the one week unpaid period for Short-Term Disability. This will be in addition to PTO  and the new sick leave that will become available as of July 1. This bank will be available for a 5-year time period, through June 30, 2027. It is not subject to payout at termination of employment.

Paid Leave for AAPs (HR Policy #612 (new window))  will also be sunset as of July 1, as AAPs will now be covered under Paid Time Off for Administrative Employees (HR Policy #602 (new window)).

Those employees who were hired, or accepted an offer of employment, as an AAP on or before June 30, 2022 will retain access to the 10-week Professional Leave benefit for the remainder of their career at the university.

AAP Designation
All current AAPs will retain their designation, but it will no longer be applied for purposes of new hires on or after July 1, 2022. Exceptions will be made for individuals who have not yet been hired in GMS but who have formally accepted an AAP-designated position on or before June 30, 2022. All eligible administrative employees receiving an offer of employment or who are hired on or after July 1, 2022 will be designated as Staff in GMS and receive the staff benefits package available on that date. HR Contacts and Hiring Managers will soon be receiving a message from the Department of Human Resources that provides additional guidance with regard to hiring.

If you have any questions, please contact your HR Client Services representative (new window).

CC: Managers of AAPs for awareness.
