Retiree Tuition Assistance Benefits

Retirees are eligible for Tuition Assistance benefits for themselves and their children through the TAP plan. In order to be eligible for this benefit as a retiree, you must have been working at least 90% time or 36 hours per week at the time of your retirement.

The same rules apply for retirees as for active employees, so you should review the TAP rules when applying for these benefits.

Please note that in certain circumstances, you may be eligible for retiree TAP benefits and also TAP benefits under the MedStar Health transitional benefits. Generally speaking, the TAP benefits as a retiree are more generous than the transitional MedStar benefits. We will provide you with the benefit that is the most generous under your situation. If you are applying for TAP benefits as a retiree, we suggest that you write the word "RETIREE" in bold letters on the top of the TAP form when applying.
